Lake Awoonga in Benaraby
Lake Awoonga is approx. 10km or 12-minute drive away from the Motel. This is a man-made lake which is a great recreation area free for public use. There are many water activities such as fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking; as well as hiking, picnics and barbecues and bird watching.
Lake Awoonga is a recognised flora and fauna refuge where domestic animals such as dogs are not permitted.

Boyne Island and Tannum Sands (BITS)
White Sand Beach
You can go swimming year-round at the sublime patrolled Tannum Sands Beach. Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the Millennium Esplanade, Cattle Creek and Canoe Point.
On the first Saturday of each month is the Beach and Arts Music (BAM) Festival which is held along the Millennium Esplanade.
Boyne Smelter Visitor Centre
Amid all this subtropical beauty is an unexpected industrial behemoth. Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter, the Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL) has been operating since 1982. The smelter produces some 660,000 tonnes of aluminium each year and welcomes curious minds at the Smelter Visitor Centre.
Boyne Tannum Hook-up
A popular event near Benaraby is the Boyne Tannum Hook-up, which is a fishing event held annually. It brings people from all parts of Australia to enjoy a great community event with raffles and great prizes at stake.
